Cougar Connect: Class Placements, Morning Drop-off, and Afternoon Pick-Up
Getting Ready for a Great Year!
With less than two weeks until the first day of school, we are hard at work here at Clyde Hill Elementary getting ready for your children!
Class Placements
Right now we are still enrolling new students at Clyde Hill! As a result of the enrollments that continue to come in, class placements continue to change. Official class placements will be emailed to families at the end of our staff's Professional Learning Day on August 28th. Since all sixteen elementary schools will be emailing at the same time from our student information system, please know that it can take time for the emails to send. If for some reason you do not receive an email by Thursday morning, please reach out to the main office either by phone, 425-456-5000, or email our office manager Holly Westerberg at westerbergh@bsd405.org. Also, it is important to note that while some families may have seen tentative teacher assignments in various places online when the student information system went live in mid-August, these assignments are drafts and can change based on a variety of factors.
Morning Drop-Off and Afternoon Pick-Up
As a school of nearly 600 students in preschool through 5th grade, drop-off and pick-up are very busy times of the day. Please bring your patience. While many families are familiar with the drop-off and pick-up procedures, some families are new, and we want to make sure we help everyone learn how the system works here at Clyde Hill.
Before getting into specifics, please note that parking lot that is entered from 98th Ave NE is for buses, staff, and families with preschool students.
To enter the parking lot off of NE 24th St., you need to turn right into the parking lot (You will also only be able to turn right out of the parking lot when you leave). Pull forward as directed by staff or to the crosswalk near the flagpole. Students must exit their vehicle to the curb - the right/passenger side of their car.
At 7:40 am, students who are eating breakfast at school will be able to enter the cafeteria. Students in grades K-2 will wait out in front of school under the coveredy walkway supervised of school staff begining at 7:40. Students in grades 3-5 will wait in the covered play area with supervision beginning at 7:40. Please do not drop your children off prior to 7:40 as there is not adult supervision prior to this time. At 7:50 am, the front doors are opened and students walk to their classrooms to begin their day.
Students who arrive on buses are greeted by staff and join students who are waiting in their grade level locations if their bus arrives prior to 7:50. Most buses arrive between 7:40 and 7:45 to ensure students wanting breakfast have time to eat.
Dismissal and Pick-Up
Like arrival, dismissal is very busy time at Clyde Hill. It is important that your child know how they are going home each day. Teachers will ensure they know how each child is going home or which aftercare program they are headed to. Bus riders are walked to buses and supported to getting on the correct bus.
Students who are walking head out, and those who are meeting an adult or older sibling meet near the flagpole near the main office.
Students who are being picked up by car are brought to the covered play area. Staff members will use radios to call for students as their adults arrive.
- Prior to the end of the school day, a staff member will come out and gather the names of the students for the first 20-30 cars so that we can get those students into cars quickly and get the car rider line moving quickly.
- As the line moves forward, students will be called from the covered play area and walked to their car.
- Given the number of students who are picked up by car, Clyde Hill uses the entire length of its pick-up lane to minimize the back-up onto NE 24th. This means that the pick-up lane starts past the main office as the pick-up lane circles back towards the entry road. Staff will guide you forward. Having cars pull all the way forward helps shorten the time cars are backed up on NE 24th St.
